Beyond Gender Binaries – November 13, 2011

Rev. Lilli Nye and Alley Stoughton offer a service exploring the territory of self and other that can exist “Beyond The Gender Binaries.” Recognizing that sex and gender emerge from a complex layering of factors and qualities–physical and physiological, emotional, psychological, social, and more–we consider how we limit our perceptions of ourselves and others with gender binary thinking. We invite the experience of unique and whole self-hood that becomes more possible when we loosen the binary framework. This service also recognizes that the following Sunday, November 20, is the International Trans Day of Remembrance, memorializing those who have been killed as a result of transphobia.
