A Spiritual Call to End Mass Incarceration – March 16, 2014

The “progressive” state of Massachusetts, which already has one of the highest incarceration rates in the country, plans to allocate $2 billion more for prisons. Our Social Justice Service explores the moral, social, and financial costs of mass incarceration. Marinella Blake, from EPOCA (Ex-Prisoners and Prisoners Organizing for Community Advancement), describes the Jobs Not Jails Campaign and shares her personal story. Josh Beardsley, who became committed to ending mass incarceration when he retired and read The New Jim Crow, shares Massachusetts incarceration information and outlines the specific contribution faith communities can make in this growing local and national movement.
