Rev. Lilli Nye leads our ingathering worship, as we bring mementos — small objects or photos — of our summer to place at the altar. On this day full of many meanings, her sermon explores the meaning of towers—our bell tower, the Twin Towers, the tower as a meeting of heaven and earth and a symbol of human aspiration and potentially of hubris. We reflect on what we want our own tower to represent to the world around us, and what “restoration” means as a spiritual and emotional, as well as a physical, process.
