“Belonging to the Land: Restoring Kinship and Reciprocity in Times of Distress.” Guest preacher Kristen Wyman will be leading the service. Kristen is a member of the Natick Nipmuc tribe of Massachusetts and a longtime advocate for access to public lands, environmental justice, and rights to self-determination for tribal peoples of New England. As a descendant of the “Christianized” Indians forcefully removed to an internment camp on Deer Island in the winter of 1675, Kristen views her work with tribal women and families is a contribution to her ancestors’ legacy of environmentalism and generosity.
Kristen is a full-time program manager with Gedakina, a native-governed nonprofit that nurtures cultural programs, health and wellness, and economic opportunities for tribal peoples in New England. She recently completed a master’s program in Environmental Conservation from the University of New Hampshire and holds a BA in Legal Studies, Political Science and Native American Studies from UMASS, Amherst.
