Decoration Day

The Rev. Katie Lee Crane, who leads this service, shares the following thoughts:

My family called Memorial Day “Decoration Day.” Every spring we made the rounds of cemeteries, “decorating” the graves of our deceased relatives. On this Memorial Day weekend I will invite us to ponder this question: “Whom do I want to decorate?” Who is on your list of people — living and dead — who influenced you, inspired you, taught you, loved you? Some you knew; some you never knew. Some were relatives; others, strangers. They lived before our time. They lived on the pages of books; they wrote the books. They walked the walk. They made a difference.”

Katie Lee is a member of this congregation and a longtime Unitarian Universalist. She is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, now minister emerita at First Parish of Sudbury, where she served for 13 years.  She and her husband Jonas (Yó-nas) are both retired and live in West Roxbury.
