Summer Vespers: Prophetic Voices of Racial Justice

The service will be led by Carey Toran. Please bring a quote from a black American who speaks to you in some way about racial justice and the American experience. We will reflect and meditate on your shared quotes.  Carey writes, “I will also bring some quotes gathered from my recent and inspiring pilgrimage to Montgomery, Alabama, where I visited Selma, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Memorial to 40 civil rights martyrs, and the Memorial for Peace and Justice (honoring the victims of lynching) and the Legacy Museum — both developed by the Equal Justice Initiative.” Possible sources include: Rev. Dr. William Barber; Martin Luther King, Jr.; James Baldwin; Ida B. Wells; Malcolm X; Maya Angelou; Toni Morrison; Frederick Douglass; Sojourner Truth; Bryan Stevenson; Michelle Alexander; Ta-Nehisi Coates, and others.

Our final summer vespers service will be held on August 28. Sunday worship services and our children’s religious exploration program resume on September 8 at 10:30 am.
